Whether you're already using our content management system (CMS) to manage your website, or you're looking for CMS software that can meet the requirements of the Law 25, CTRL/Web already has the features to ensure you comply.

But first...what is the Law 25?
Quebec's new Law 25 deals with the protection of personal information, and will enter a new phase of implementation on September 22, 2023.

In a nutshell, this law requires all organizations and businesses to take measures to protect the personal information of Quebecers, and to report any incidents of theft of personal information to the information access commission.

What is sensitive information?

Any personal information of an employee, customer, supplier, partner or visitor to your website with whom you exchange information.

More specifically, personal information is any information that specifically and unambiguously identifies an individual.

If you store and manage this type of information on your internal or hosted servers, you must ensure that this data is adequately protected against theft through cyber-intrusion.

What does this have to do with your website?

The majority of modern websites use browser and transaction cookies to offer you more and more personalized functionalities. The issue with these cookies is that, by their very nature, they potentially store personal information about your visitor.

Under the Law 25, you must consider two aspects if you wish to retain and use this type of information to analyze your site's performance and/or your visitor's behavior:

  • Obtaining informed consent from each visitor regarding your retention and use of certain personal information they may share with you during their visit to your website.

CTRL/Web already provides the functionality to manage this aspect transparently.

  • All you have to do is activate and configure it.If you store sensitive information about your visitors, you then need to ensure that it is protected against unauthorized use, for example by a malicious third party.

Our specialists can help you validate and adjust your IT environment as required.
